UPDATE: Philippines Typhoon Urgent Appeal - January 7th 2014
Nearly two months have passed since the Philippines was struck by Typhoon Haiyan.
To everyone that could afford to make a donation to the Bóthar Philippines Urgent Appeal, thank you. Your donation has helped many of our 4,000 participant families get back on their feet in the wake of the catastrophe.
Through our partners Heifer International, we were able to get emergency aid to the areas of Ormoc and Calubian, Leyte.
Bóthar is by no means a traditional first responder. Our role at the time of the appeal was limited to short-term provisional support – food, water, transportation.
But now, almost two months on, we are now concentrating on delivering long-term sustainable solutions through the use of innovative livestock and agricultural systems. Practices we know work. Bóthar provides that hand-up families can use to grow their own food and sell it for income to pay for medical care, school fees and better homes.
We have pledged to help families rebuild their lives and we could not do this without your help. The response from our donors was tremendous and donations are still coming in.
Here’s a link to some images of the aid being delivered and distributed. We will continue to report on our programmes in the Philippines as we get more information in from the field.
Thank you for your continued support.
