Give a life-changing egg this Easter
But there’s an egg in a small village in Zimbabwe.
A life-changing egg that doesn’t cost the earth.
In fact, to the family who receives it, it is priceless.
…it’s an egg from a Bóthar hen.
Bóthar has been working successfully with women farmers in Bikita District, Masvingo Province, Zimbabwe since 2017.
Unfortunately in this area, gender inequality exists. Employment opportunities that would enable women to change their circumstances are few and far between. This social issue, coupled with additional problems caused by natural disasters, like drought resulting from El Niño, make it very difficult to make improvements in a life riddled with a lack of opportunity.
But all is not lost.
Because there are hens, there are eggs and there is you.
Since April 2017, Bóthar has been making a difference.
Empowering women.
Changing lives.
And it is all because of hens donated by someone like you.
Bóthar has been funding the Women’s Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment Project (WOLEEP) through our laying hens programme.
The programme provides families with women as heads of household, with laying hens. Once fully mature, the laying hens will produce eggs daily, immediately adding protein to the family’s daily diet. Leftover eggs can be sold or bartered locally, giving the family a sustainable source of income.
It costs €210 to establish a family with chickens, a secure chicken coop, training on poultry care and full veterinary back up, but please give whatever you can afford as there are many gift options available.
It’s easy to pledge your support:

A gift of laying hens will allow mothers to stay in their villages, raise their children, provide better nutrition through a varied diet and send their children to school.
It is so much more than the gift of a hen. It is a life-changing hen.
I really hope you can consider giving a different kind of egg this Easter.
Happy Easter.
