This Easter help us help families of the Rwandan Genocide
1 million Rwandans were slaughtered in three months in the fastest killing spree of all time - the Rwandan Genocide.
And the world still turned.
But for Rwandans it was never the same again.
When you think back 25 years it seems a lifetime ago. It is a lifetime ago.
But for survivors of the Genocide it still seems like yesterday.
For war widows of the Genocide, their scars won’t let them forget.
But they don’t look back.
They look forward...
For they are the lucky ones.
They look out the window at their Irish dairy cow and they know they have been given a life-line.
Many affected by the horrors of the Genocide were able to turn their lives around and were able to start living again thanks to the gift of an Irish dairy cow that was donated by the Irish public.
Irish dairy cows have enabled families to remain in their villages surrounded by people they love, rather than forcing them into unsavoury jobs in the larger urban areas.
For those that have already benefited from a Bóthar gift, they tell us that were it not for the gift of an Irish dairy cow, they do not know if they would have survived because this was their way out. Their journey through the pain.
For their neighbours who have yet to benefit?
They wait.
They wait in hope.
For it will be their turn soon.
Give them a chance...
After 25 years it’s the least they deserve. I hope you agree.
